When you run your dryer, does it vent the exhaust outside your home? It is very important that it does. Why is that? Because your average load of laundry will contain about a gallon of water, and this will go out through the exhaust of your dryer. Just imagine spilling a gallon of water anywhere in your home. You would probably clean it up as soon as possible. Once the water from the dryer exhaust cools down and condenses, you will have a gallon’s worth of water somewhere in your home.
So, how should the dryer be vented? You want to have a duct that is as straight as possible to avoid lint buildup. If lint builds up in your dryer exhaust, it could pose a fire hazard, and the same is true if some animal builds a nest in there. You should periodically check that the exhaust actually vents outside. It is good if the vent is covered to prevent pests from entering.
