Have you ever experienced the irritation that comes with a slow moving shower drain? It is difficult to feel completely clean when you have your dirty shower water sloshing around your ankles. While a clogged shower drain is a fairly common problem, this doesn’t mean that it is one that is difficult to solve. Most of the time, the clog will be from a buildup of hair and soap. It is possible that running very hot water down the drain will dissolve the clog, but many times, especially if the clog is made up of hair, you will need to do more work than that. If you have access to a drain snake, then that is the best solution, but since that is not a common household item, you might need to improvise.
Something that you can find in most homes is a metal hanger. We probably all have some of those hanging in the closet after a visit to the dry cleaner. Unwinding the hanger, you can create a makeshift snake that can be used to remove the clog. You should be careful not to damage your pipes, but you will be happy once the water flows freely again.
