The effect that allergies have on people can range widely, from itching and sneezing to life-threatening conditions. Of course, the majority of allergy sufferers won’t go into an anaphylactic shock when exposed to some pet dander, but still, living in a home that has previously had pets in it could be a nightmare.

The problem with pet dander is that you might not notice it on your tour of the home, especially if you are too distracted to notice the allergy symptoms, or if it is a time of year where you are experiencing these symptoms almost constantly.

So, if you have bought a home and realize that there are traces of previous pets triggering your allergies, what can you do? Your best remedy is a thorough cleaning. There are a few methods that you want to implement to make sure that you aren’t making the situation worse, however. For example, many regular vacuum cleaners will kick up a lot of the fine pet dander into the air instead of getting rid of it. To be sure that it is cleared away, you want to use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter which is fine enough to filter out those particles.

You also need to replace any filters that are attached to your HVAC system and vents since these can hold a large amount of dander that will then be released over time.
