With the cold weather in the winter months, some homes see a lot more birds showing up in their backyard, looking for food or shelter. Some homeowners love to have birds near their home, putting out feeders and birdhouses, while others view them as another type of pest. Whatever your view is, there are some negative effects of having a lot of birds visit your home.

Where there are birds, there will be plenty of bird droppings. Bird droppings are slightly acidic, and this can eat through many different types of building material. Don’t leave it sitting on anything you value.

Birds will need somewhere to live, and many times this means that they build a nest. Since they like to have their nests in a secluded, hard to access spot, this can mean vents and chimneys, and if those get blocked, you will quickly notice problems.

Keeping birds away is not easy, especially if they find food and shelter easily near your home. You can try to keep them from areas where you don’t want them by putting up netting that they can’t get through.
