Working around your home, a ladder often proves to be an invaluable tool, and it should be easy enough to use, right?
The truth is that ladders can be very dangerous when used improperly. According to a study by the CDC, falls are a leading cause of death, and nearly half of all deadly falls are from ladders. As soon as you are more than 6 feet above ground, you are at risk of death or serious injury.
How can you make sure that you are using a ladder safely?
It all begins with setting up your ladder. Make sure that it is on level, firm ground to keep it from tipping. Next, mount and dismount the ladder properly, use one rung at a time and always keep at least 3 points of contact with the ladder. Do not overreach above or to the sides of the ladder. Even though it will take extra time, it is worth it to climb down and move the ladder instead of risking your safety.
