Water can do a lot of damage to a home, and every part of the building is affected. Did you know that at one point the Niagara Falls was moving 5 feet every year because of erosion? If water can eat away at solid rock, then imagine what it can do to the much softer material that your home is made out of. Your roof collects a lot of water when it rains, and there is a right way and a wrong way for it to run off the roof. For example, if you have two sections of roof with different elevations, you shouldn’t have the water draining from one section of roof onto the other. This will damage the roof. Instead, you need to have a gutter that drains it all the way down to the bottom of the roof. While this might not be the most efficient way to build, it is the way that will preserve your roof longer, and as you are probably aware, a roof replacement can get very expensive.
