Do you know how to measure the flow rate of your faucet? It is a good fact to know if you want to conserve water. The measurement for flow rate is gallons per minute, and a proper flow rate is around one gallon per minute.

To measure your flow rate you just need to turn on your faucet to full flow and then fill up a measuring container. You can let the water run for 15 seconds and then multiply the amount of water by 4. If you fill a quart in 15 seconds, you have the right flow rate, but if it is a lot more than that, your flow rate is on the high side. To lessen the flow rate while still having the pressure to clean your hands efficiently, you could install an aerator. Aerators mix water with air so that you still get good pressure while using a lot less water.
