Do you defend your home? Well, you might think that there are some things that you can’t defend it from such as natural disasters, but that might not be entirely true. Some homeowners have chosen to implement something called “Defensible space” around their home, in the event of a disaster. While there are many different types of disasters, heavy winds, tornadoes, and wildfire all turn debris and vegetation around your home against you. A fire will use it as fuel while the winds will toss it around. So the idea behind defensible space is to divide your property into 3 zones; 0-15 feet from your home, 15-100 feet, and 100-> where the vegetation and debris are controlled. In the zone closest to your home, it should be clear, while the other two zones have slightly less stringent requirements.
While this method might not make your home 100% safe from disasters, it will give your home some protection from them.
