What type of insulation do you have in your home? With so many choices on the market, it can vary greatly. One of the types available that has an interesting history is rockwool. Rockwool is aptly named, because it is made from rocks. It was inspired by a material found in trees after a volcanic eruption. After seeing sheets of what appeared to be a hair like substance in the trees, it was discovered that these were formed from lava falling through the air and cooling down. A process was developed to recreate this process in a factory setting, and rockwool was created.
Rockwool is excellent both when it comes to keeping the heat in, as well as, in keeping sound out. It is also safe against fire since it is made from rock.
There are no chemicals used in the material, so it is not harmful to touch, and it can be recycled safely.
