As summer gets ever closer, many homeowners are preparing their homes for increased heat. If you don’t have central air conditioning, or if there are rooms where you need some extra cold air, the solution is usually a window mounted air conditioner.
These units are fairly common, and they come in different sizes, all the way from 5,000 to 23,000 BTUs. The higher the BTUs, the heavier the air conditioner will be.
Before you start installing the air conditioner, make sure that you pick an appropriate location. You should not plug a major appliance, such as an air conditioner, into an extension cord. This could be a fire hazard. Instead, place the air conditioner near a wall receptacle. You should also install it where it will be shaded to make it more efficient.
Use all hardware provided, and make sure that the AC is firmly supported. If necessary, you can add a supporting bracket underneath the unit.
